Using phonics to develop the emergent English literacy skills of Spanish learners

Phonics is well established in the English-speaking world, but to date it has beenimplemented only a limited extent contexts where English foreign language.This study aimed evaluate appropriateness of phonics for developing literacy skills Spanishlearners English. An experimental pre-test – post-test design was used determine method’sadded value. The sample consisted two equivalent groups Spanish bilingual state primaryschool, control and treatment group, phonic method implemented by researcher.Data were collected through tests measuring emergent skills. Non-parametric correlations data analysis.The group presented significant improvement phonological awareness, naming andletter pseudo-word reading post-test. These 7-year-old childrenattained level children aged 5.8. findings alsosuggested positive transference between word pseudo-wordreading.The present can serve as possible proposal help improve our programmesthrough use early years order increase learners’ level.
